Caribbean Homes and Export is a state of the art 40,000 square ft. warehouse that employs over 160 personnel. CHAE is globally designed, locally produced and delivered worldwide.
The company works in partnership with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and with CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) to confirm responsible collection of the wood.
Custom homes are crafted using raw material harvested in Belize. The five species include: bullet trees for the piles, cabbage bark for all exterior decking and stairs, santa maria for flooring, caribbean pine for framing and siding and mahogany for countertops, doors, windows and specialty items.
StudioSky, headed by Eric Moser, Julia Sanford, and Steve Mouzon, are the architects and lead designers for the homes. Each is a member of the Board of Directors of the Sky Institute for the Future, which is a nonprofit focused on research, education and sustainable architectural prototypes. StudioSky is a for-profit design firm that implements the ideals of the Institute.
Eric Moser, partner in StudioSky, developed the system of homebuilding that can be expanded in a modular fashion. It begins with the core house, and then expands with wings and "knuckles," allowing a proven set of house pieces to be built over time in countless ways according to site conditions.
The smaller, more practical homes are smart in design. Each home is built to take advantage of natural resources while the diminutive footprint allows for easy care.
Each home embraces the indigenous details of Caribbean living: open windows, high ceilings and generous porches.
Small proportionately but with generous living spaces, the custom houses provide for easy maintenance and a relaxed environment.
The unique characteristics of the specialty woods of Belize create timeless elegance and exceptional style.
